No More Shall We Part” (Mute Records, 2001). The World is burning” (Svart Records, Secret Trees, 2014).
Me And That Man - “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol.1” (album review) “without being as terrible as the first album is nothing to write home BEHEMOTH mastermind Adam “Nergal” Darski has signed a menacing pact with the devil once again, returning with dark folk/blues/Americana influenced solo project ME AND THAT MAN‘s third full-length studio album, “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 2”, on November 19, 2021 via Napalm Records. Following the chart-breaking and critically acclaimed antecedent, “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1” (2020), the enthralling new offering follows the exciting path Nergal then set ablaze, once again featuring an abundance of heavy music icons — but this time, he takes it to a whole new level. Experience greats such as Gary Holt (SLAYER, EXODUS), Alissa White-Gluz (ARCH ENEMY), Mary Goore, Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD), Myrkur, Devin Townsend, David Vincent (MORBID ANGEL), Doug Blair ( Hank Von Hell (TURBONEGRO) and Olve “Abbath” Eikemo (IMMORTAL, ABBATH) intertwining with the album’s bewitching collection of occult anthems, marking another breathtaking symbiosis of unfiltered blues, gothic-laced folk, country essence and touch of evil you’ll swear was either beamed straight out of hell or the most blackened of churches. To mark the album announcement, the devil himself opens a gloomy rift to the most sinister mass and unveils its first track and the official music video. “Got Your Tongue” featuring Chris Georgiadis (TURBOWOLF) showcases another facet of his juxtaposed project and fuels the fire for more. Watch it below. Pre-order “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 2” HERE. Darski comments on the new album: “Here we go again, mother lovers! ‘New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 2’. You guys know the drill, I recruited the best of the best in heavy music to collaborate on some unique tracks me and the Polish, Italian and Ukrainian crew have been working on over the last 18 months. Once again, the result, amazing and the performances, inspired! Thank you, comrades — Abbath, Alissa, Amalie, Anders, Blaze, Chris G, Chris H, David, Devin, Douglas, Frank, Gary, Hank, Jeff, Kriss, Michale, Ralf and Randy. Who knows when we’ll get together to play these songs but I will try my best to make it happen! Enjoy it everyone!” Following the chart-breaking part one of the album, ME AND THAT MAN are now presenting whole new facets: Opening track “Black Hearse Cadillac”, featuring the vocals of Hank Von Hell and guitar sorcery by Anders Odden, marks a sinister beginning to this infernal journey through dark desert soundscapes and evil lyricism. Driving “Under The Spell” (featuring Mary Goore) lives up to its title, at times evoking a spaghetti western-esque ambience. Songs like wicked “Witches Don’t Fall In Love” (featuring Kristoffer Rygg of ULVER), straight-to-the-head rocking “Blues & Cocaine” (featuring Michale Graves) and mysterious “Goodbye” — with a haunting-yet-powerful vocal attack by Alissa White-Gluz — showcase the record’s extensive variety and that there’s something unexpected lurking all throughout. This is further evident on songs like the soulful blues-rock ballad “Angel Of Light” featuring the compelling voice of Myrkur, or insanely dynamic, uptempo outburst of “Got Your Tongue” featuring Chris Georgiadis (TURBOWOLF). After the enticing debut “Songs Of Love And Death” (2017), followed by sophomore release “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1”, its sequel once again mirrors Nergal in a completely different light and provides a tremendous contrast to the extreme metal sounds of BEHEMOTH. “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 2” track listing: 1. Napalm Records has announced the official release of ME AND THAT MAN's sophomore full-length album, titled "New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1", on March 27. It will be celebrated with a special record-release show in London on the same day, including special guests from the years after their initial debut, ME AND THAT MAN has returned with an offering that is indeed different from the first, but in no way less brilliant. The mysterious collective has surpassed themselves with their bewitching new collection — featuring ominous lyricism atop unfiltered blues, gothic-laced folk, outlaw country and Americana-influenced anthems. The enthralling album visits a completely new spectrum of dark desert vibes and sees notable heavy music icons such as Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT),Brent Hinds (MASTODON),Matt Heafy (TRIVIUM),Ihsahn (EMPEROR) and Sivert Hþyem (MADRUGADA) join the pact with the devil. "New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1" is a diversified, dynamic masterpiece that presents Nergal in a completely new light, providing a strong contrast to the heavier sounds of BEHEMOTH. Evil has truly never sounded so comments: "With the utmost pride and
kind of relief;,I present to you, the second ME AND THAT MAN album — 'New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1'. This time 'round, I wanted to take on a different challenge and curated an album of 11 songs — each with their own character and vibe, alongside the most talented and important individuals across the whole scene. Together, we take trips to the lands of blues, folk, country and even spaghetti western. Only time will tell if we hit the mark, but I deeply believe so. I'm very proud of this piece of work and it has been a monumental task to achieve."I would like to thank EACH one of our guests for being part of this project: Mat and Matt, Niklas and Jþrgen, Corey, Alan, Addi, Brent, Vegard, Sivert, Anders, Rob, Jerome, Johanna and Nicke. I LOVE you all from here to the moon and back! Without the passion and heart you granted us, this wouldn't have been possible!"After just having released the upbeat "Run With The Devil" featuring Jþrgen Munkeby of the Norwegian blackjazz collective SHINING and the outlaw-infused "Burning Churches" featuring Mat McNerney of GRAVE PLEASURES, ME AND THAT MAN have dropped a third single — the gloomy, soulful "Surrender", cut from "New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1". Niklas Kvarforth of SHINING)ME AND THAT MAN released its debut album, "Songs Of Love And Death", in 2017 — introducing the world to its unique brand of folk and blues, mixed with hints of outlaw country. The atmospherically dark album provided a strong contrast to BEHEMOTH with its catchy melodies and relaxed rhythms, and gave Nergal space to express his creativity in a different setting. Since its release, the album's lead single, "My Church Is Black", has racked up over million streams on has been a fixture in the music industry for years. As the frontman of black/death metal band BEHEMOTH, Darski has been known to preach unholy sermons, praise Satan and sing about explicit blasphemy. Naturally, the next step was to channel those themes into another genre commonly dubbed as the Devil's music — blues. ME AND THAT MAN is exactly that — Nergal's solo project will surprise and bewitch the listener. The visionary creative founded the band in an effort to showcase his true ability to adapt to any genre. In summer 2018, British/Polish rock musician John Porter left ME AND THAT MAN after the band completed a number of gigs in support of "Songs Of Love And Death".Photo credit: Grzegorz-GoƂębiowski Discover Męstwo by Me and That Man. Find album reviews, track lists, credits, awards and more at AllMusic. Just a year after the release of New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, the Behemoth frontman has returned and this time Nergal has bought even more friends with him. The second instalment features stunning guests such as Gary Holt (Slayer, Exodus), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God), Myrkur, Devin Townsend, David Vincent, Doug Blair ( Hank von Hell (Turbonegro) and Olve Abbath Eikemo (Immortal, Abbath) to join the Blackened Folk sound. From the start, the darkness that is involved in this album is felt as the world turns to greyscale and the sounds of Folk, Blues and Americana take an unusually disturbing turn that makes you feel lik the songs have been created with sinister influences. As the opening track ‘Black Hearse Cadillac’ ensures that the feeling is as intense as possible, the haunting sounds of chants welcome you before the vocal of Hank von Hell adds a different dimension, however that uncomfortable feeling really sets the feeling of impending doom on another level. As the songs progress you will hear a different side of the guest performers as well as they delve into this unnerving world and when you hear Alissa White-Gluz on ‘Goodbye’ you won’t hear Arch Enemy. You will experience a more stripped-down version of her and it not only works amazingly but fits with the style of music almost naturally. The vocal of Myrkur is usually heard around the blackened folk arena ad unsurprising this sounds authentic and made for joining Me And That Man. If you want to hear how a perfect guest slot can work, listen to ‘Angel of Light.’ Whilst this album has a darker sound to it than both New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, and Songs of Love and Death this certainly isn’t a turn that hasn’t worked. The feeling that something horrendous is happening lasts for the entire 45 minutes even in the more Rock n Roll tracks you can never get comfortable. The fact that so many top-level guests want to be a part of this project just goes to show how impressive the Me And That Man brand is and the way that all the featured artists just slot in so easily has allowed for an authentically twisted take on traditional Folk and Blues. Friday evening, Adam Darski and his ME AND THAT MAN crew held a live stream on Napalm Record’s Youtube channel to celebrate the release of their sophomore album “New Man, New Songs, Same Shit Vol. 1” (out March 27) which boasts a long list of well-known guest musicians among which include Corey Taylor, Matt Heafy, Ihsahn, Rob Caggiano, and many others. Unlike black metal heavyweights BEHEMOTH, Nergal’s side project, ME AND THAT MAN follows a different approach to music, fusing blues and folk with rock and metal influences thus creating 11 tracks that have their own personality and flavor, especially considering the talent involved in this record. The proceedings begin on an energetic and rockish note with the track “Run With The Devil” only to be followed by the bluesy/Gothic mix-up that is “Coming Home,” which half reminds me of the Elvis Presley half of TYPE O NEGATIVE because of Siver Hþyem’s sultry vocals, the lyrics, and the gritty guitar tone. This laid back and relaxed vibe continues with the uplifting “Burning Churches” a dark affair that has a western/gospel feel to it, especially during the chorus, which combines incredibly well with the black metal aesthetic that derives from the overall atmosphere of the song. The melancholy “By the River” is a song where the folky notes of southern country music meet a doomy, funereal vibe thanks to Ihsahn’s intense vocal delivery, while a superb guitar solo closes the track in style. The upbeat acoustic “Męstwo” feels like an interlude more than anything else, with Adam Darski sounding confident and a bit delicate while the backing arrangements are ethereal and atmospheric. “Surrender” features a more preeminent gospel feel because of the backing choirs that add not only atmosphere but also intensity to the music, though the guitars and vocals give it a more rockish edge. Exploring the heart of the western culture, “Deep Down South” is a beautiful duet between Nicke Anderson (ENTOMBED) and Johanna Sadonis (LUCIFER) that even incorporates a harmonica solo and what sounds like a banjo for a more genuine feel. “Man of the Cross” is another dark affair that has some Nick Cave vibes to it coming from the atmosphere and orchestrations, as well as Jerome Reuter’s grave vocal delivery. The acoustic “You Will Be Mine” works as the ballad of the album with Matt Heafy delivering a sweet and tender, heartfelt performance, after which follows Corey Taylor, whose delivery in “How Come?” is as magnetic as it is suave. The guitar melody and bluesy solo courtesy of Brent Hinds makes the track feel more rockish than it actually is. “Confession” features a deep and elegant delivery from Niklas Kvarforth before a rush of guitars closes off the album in a very BEHEMOTH type of way. Mysterious are the ways of the music, since a Polish artist has managed to create such an intriguing index of everything Americana, while somehow still retaining elements that are familiar to the listeners. There are a lot of different facets to this album that sometimes work like a charm, sometimes drag a bit, but everything is held together tightly by the gloomy atmosphere of dark blues melodies. Worshiping the devil has never been more seductive. Written by Andrea Crow Tracklist Run With The Devil (feat. Jþrgen Munkeby, SHINING [NO]) Coming Home (feat.
